2.28.040 Bereavement or funeral leave.

An eligible employee shall be entitled to full pay for time lost following the death and to and including the day following the funeral ceremony of a member of his immediate family, which shall be deemed to include spouse, children, mother, father, mother-in-law and father-in-law.
For death of a grandmother, grandfather, sister, brother, sister-in-law or brother-in-law, an employee will be entitled to full pay for time lost if the employee attends the funeral and the day of the funeral is the employee’s regular shift day. If the funeral ceremony is more than two hundred miles from the town, and the employee attends the funeral, the maximum compensable funeral leave shall be such shift days as fall within three consecutive days, including the day of the funeral, or such longer period, not to exceed five days, as the employee’s department head may recommend after taking into consideration the extent of travel required by the employee to attend the funeral.
A permanent employee of the town shall, upon approval of his department head, receive time off with full pay to service as a pallbearer. (Ord. 652 § 2, 1981: Ord. 540 § 4, 1975).
