5.12.110 Meters and their inspection.

(a) It shall be unlawful for any person to own, control, or operate any taxicab licensed and used under this chapter, unless such taxicab is equipped with a practical standard fare register device or taximeter, maintained at all times in good and workable condition, designed to measure mechanically and accurately the distance traveled, and upon which device there shall be plainly indicated, by means of figures, the proper fare to be charged.
(b) The taximeter and all other mechanical devices of each licensed taxicab shall be tested and inspected periodically, by a person who shall be designated, approved and certified by the board of trustees. The town marshal shall, in addition, spot check periodically, at reasonable times, individual cabs for the above conditions. If any violations of this section are discovered, the town marshal shall seize the license certificate of the taxicab in violation, pursuant to Section 5.12.090 of this chapter. (Ord. 383 § 11, 1966).
